I was sitting down in my office trying to think of the next Blog to write and I starting thinking, “If I could create a time machine and I could go back just once, what would I go back and tell my younger self?”
The more I thought about it, the more I realized it was a tough question to answer. The reason it was so tough for me was because since I’ve started investing in Real Estate back in 2008, I’ve made so many mistakes.
Then it hit me like a ton of bricks! The BIGGEST mistake was something that I could NEVER EVER fix no matter what I did. Here it is…..
Invest in Real Estate 8 years earlier when I first decided that I wanted to.
I remember it like the back of my hand in the summer of 2000. One of my co-workers had invested in a property and he was having all these crazy issues with his investment property.
• The tenants weren’t paying their rent on time.
• They were not keeping the outside of the home like he would.
• They were calling him every other week.
He was simply having a hard time trying to get them out… on and on and on and he had decided to sell. I remember everyone huddled around listening to him and it was like gospel to all of us. Like all tenants were like this so bottom line was you shouldn’t get into Real Estate investing.
The sad part was that I believed it and so did everyone else around him. Based on that simple conversation…. I decided not to get into investing. Instead of learning from experts in the industry I accepted the testimonial from a co-worker as the best piece of advice I could get about Real Estate investing.
Here’s what it comes down to. Almost all mistakes can be fixed as long as there is enough time and money to fix them. The ONLY mistake that cannot be fixed is MISSED TIME itself – Once it’s gone, it’s gone and there’s nothing in this world you can do to get that time back.
Unless…… you can give me a hand making this time machine in my garage?? I think I almost have it figured out.
