I’ve Had Enough… I QUIT!!
This is pretty much how I felt about 5 years ago. I had a good job at financial institution, making over 6 figures, great benefits, well respected amongst my peers… but somehow I still wasn’t satisfied.
- Although I was making great income, I was still living pay cheque to pay cheque
- I was not in control of my own life and had to be somewhere that someone else wanted me to be every morning no matter what.
- I’d had ENOUGH conversations by the water cooler about how to make money with people in the same boat as me.
- I’d had ENOUGH conference calls with 60 people and ONLY 3 or 4 of them talking and no one being ale to make a decision because there wasn’t anyone senior enough on the call.
- I’d had ENOUGH sitting in my car in traffic for hours wasting my time.
And finally…. I’d had ENOUGH with wishing my precious time away. “I can’t wait until Friday or I can’t wait until I retire”! In my opinion, not the best way to live.
Sometimes saying these words is exactly what it takes to get you moving in a completely different direction from the one that you are currently on.
So here’s exactly what I did to quit my job in 5 short years…. I worked harder than I have ever worked in my whole entire life and wrote down everything I wanted to accomplish no matter how out of the world it seemed to anyone looking in. Check out the attachment below. This is what the kids and I sat down and designed together for Smart Home Choice a few years ago!
Now I know what you may be thinking…. “Some of the goals you have written down are pretty extreme Gary?” These were my kids dreams and I wanted to see what it was like to dream like a kid again with no limits.
When we first started our business all of these goals were extreme because we had no idea how we were going to achieve these goals but, if you look at the picture… we’ve already accomplished some of them.
The point is to always DREAM BIG! Now when you set big goals, you also have to take BIG action!
So I got out of bed at 5:30am and worked until 4:30pm. Got home by 6pm and worked on Smart Home Choice and studied to get my Real Estate Licence until 1 or 2am and did it all over again the next day. Some days I though I WAS going to die, living on 2-4 hours of sleep until April 2013 when I finally was in a position to leave my full time job. One of the scariest and most exciting days of my life!
I finally did it!
Darlene and I were all able to leave our full-time jobs simply because we decided! We all just had enough.
You see, everyone has a chance in life to either be a victim or a victor, you just have to decide which one you want to be. I simply had enough of being a victim and complaining with the people around me about how much the traffic sucked and how tired I am of my job etc.
So where are you today? Are you happy with who you are and where you are?
What happens, happens to us all, what’s important is what we do about it.
